Maths
Profile of the Department
Our Maths department has 13 well-qualified and enthusiastic members of staff, and we pride ourselves in teaching to the highest standard and achieving fantastic results. The department has access to a wealth of data; this is central to the planning and delivery of lessons to all students. The data is used to provide support and guidance to all students in order to allow them to become independent learners and build their confidence and motivations for the subject.
KS2
As part of our KS2 to KS3 transition, we have links with the local primary schools to allow them to gain an insight into what to expect at secondary school.
KS3 Curriculum
When students arrive at Plumstead Manor School, they are grouped in sets based on their KS2 results. This allows them to learn at their own pace whilst still being challenged. This gives students the opportunity to move between sets depending on their personal performance.
Year on year, the overall performance of our students has improved.
The KS3 Mathematics curriculum builds the foundation skills required for KS3 Study. The students explore the key elements of number, algebra, geometry & measures and data handling. The fertile questions which lead each unit of work develop students’ key skills, including representing problems; analysing mathematical procedures; interpreting and evaluating results; communicating and reflecting findings. These skills are essential to achieve excellence in Mathematics. We believe that our programme of study will develop confident and enthusiastic mathematicians, with a hunger for learning and a flair for solving real world problems.

KS4 Curriculum
KS4 Curriculum
The KS4 Mathematics Curriculum begins in Year 9 at Plumstead Manor School as students begin to work towards the GCSE specification. Students follow the National Curriculum and will build on knowledge from KS3 by studying branches maths including Number, Algebra, Ratio, Proportion and Rates of Change, Geometry and Measures, Probability and Statistics. These branches of maths are broken into many distinct units of work that cover similar content allowing students to truly master those skills and use them to represent problems; analyse mathematical procedures; interpret and evaluate results; communicate and reflect findings. Through this we are committed to delivering a challenging and relevant curriculum that will develop our students into mathematicians.
KS5 Curriculum
We offer the following modules at KS5:
