Communication with parents policy
Aims:
To build a partnership with parents to support their children.
Principles:

Parents are acknowledged as full partners in the education of their children
- All parents will be respected regardless of their race, religion, gender or their social or cultural background
- Prompt and open communication with parents is encouraged all the time.
Practice:

A welcoming approach is extended to parents and accessibility is given high priority.
- Staff give support and seek solutions with parents.
- Parents are encouraged to make contact on pastoral and curriculum issues.
- Curriculum and assessment information will be provided to parents through letter, Plumline, special meetings, curriculum evenings and academic review days.
- A member of staff will be available to meet a parent who arrives without an appointment, although parents may have to wait. However it may not be possible to see specific staff on the day.
- Interpreters will be available by prior appointment at interviews and parents’ meetings.
- If required we will make reasonable attempts to translate information into a parent’s home language or telephone contact in the student’s home language. Where necessary signing will be organised.
- Written communication with parents will follow school guidance.
- Newsletters in plain English will provide information about achievements, school life, past and present students and staff.
- The school Prospectus is also available as soft and hard copy in Somali, Gujarati and Panjabi.
