School Governors

Plumstead Manor School - Governing Body

Welcome to the governance section of Plumstead Manor School.

Our Governors are drawn from a wide range of backgrounds and bring a range of skills and experiences to the role from within and outside the sphere of education. We also participate in rigorous induction and ongoing training as part of the Royal Borough of Greenwich Education Service.

We aim to be representative of all the key stakeholders in the Plumstead Manor community including parents, staff, Local Council appointees and wider members of the community.

As Governors our guiding principles are success, harmony excellence and justice. These values reflects the skills and qualities we believe young people need to thrive and succeed in the 21st Century, and which we see as being the centrepiece of a Plumstead Manor education. We play a significant role as part of the leadership and management structure of Plumstead Manor School and exercise oversight and challenge in a non-executive capacity to the Head Teacher and Senior Leadership Team. One of our key responsibilities is to set the strategic direction, ethos and vision for the school. We also act as critical friend, offering both challenge and support to school leaders. We seek to bring a perspective, rigour and expertise beyond education to the table. Maintaining our accountability to the local community and to the standards of public life are very important to us and we take our duty and responsibilities as Governors very seriously.

We also support the school by participating in events and acting as ambassadors for the school in terms of communications and in using our own resources to enhance the opportunities available to the young people in our charge.

If you would like further information regarding the work of the board of Governors or would like to contribute to our work, then please contact our clerk at carol.ladbrook@royalgreenwich.gov.uk

Head Teacher

Mr Douglas Greig

Mr D GreigI have been a secondary school teacher for over 20 years, all of them in Royal Greenwich Schools.  I have held a senior leadership role for over 10 of those years, and was delighted to be appointed Head Teacher at Plumstead Manor in May 2015.   I am passionate about the power of education to unlock doors and open up opportunities for young people of all abilities and backgrounds, and I want the very best for all our young people.  I also believe that schools like ours have a vital role to play as focal points in their local community.  Our school is an engine of opportunity and improvement, a generator of harmony and cohesion for the young people and families of Greenwich.  These are exciting times at Plumstead Manor, and I am both privileged and proud to serve as the Head in our wonderfully diverse and vibrant school.

Appointed by Greenwich Council:

Mr Dick Quibell

Mr D Quibell Dick Quibell has been closely involved in Education in Greenwich for over twenty years - as a governor of two other secondary schools and throughout his two terms as an elected Councillor (2006-2014). He spent several years chairing Greenwich Council’s Children and Young People’s Scrutiny Panel instigating successful work on provision for looked after children and increased take up of vaccinations. Now retired from his career as a management consultant, he has returned to his first love, Mathematics, and lectures part time at Greenwich University. His other interests include politics, cycling, cricket (Middlesex), football (Watford) and international travel.

Community Governors:

Ms M Ferrara (Staff)

Ms M FerraraI have worked at PMS for 10 years and have a 100% attendance record. I came into the education sector later in life as I stayed at home for 20 years raising (and educating) my four children. My daughter was home educated before attending a local grammar school. I had always wanted to be a teacher but the pull to be a mother was stronger! As an HLTA I have the opportunity to teach small groups which I find both challenging and rewarding.
I applied to become a staff governor as I am always looking for the next adventure and I wanted to be the voice of the non teaching staff members. The next 4 years will be exciting.....

Ms S Le Bas (Chair)

Sue Le Bas Chair of GovernorsI have been a governor in Greenwich Schools for over 20 years. Beginning at Fossdene Primary and joining the Governing Body of Plumstead Manor at the turn of the Millennium. In both cases I started as a parent Governor seeking to support the staff who taught our children. As they moved on to university I became a co-opted Governor to support the school and the community where we live. In that role I supported the school in chairing the Specialism Committee. I became Chair of the Governing Body in the Autumn of 2015.
Professionally I have worked as a Primary teacher within Greenwich for 15 years. I now work, part-time in the voluntary sector as member care officer for iNet. Through iNet I also connect with a volunteer team helping to train teachers South East-Asia. I have also undertaken some short term cover roles in local schools but have no plans as yet in place for the autumn term.
