Examination entry policy
Aim:
To enter all students who meet the requirements below:
Principles:
- Students must have attended enough lessons to ensure that they can reasonably attempt each required section of the examination.
- Deadlines for coursework/assignments are met.
- Module tests/practicals/orals have been successfully completed.
- Students must show commitment to completing the course.
- Students must maintain a standard of work likely to achieve a grade in the examination.
- Parent/person with parental responsibility consent to entry.
Practice:
- Students should be aware of the requirements for entry.
- Students should be aware that failure to maintain the required standard will result in withdrawal of entry.
- Students satisfying the criteria have their examination entry fees paid.
- Only under very exceptional circumstances may students
be entered against staff recommendations. Under such circumstances payment of the entry fee must be made by themselves/parent/person with parental responsibility.
- Absence from any part of an examination should be supported by a medical certificate - failure to provide one will result in a request for parent/person with parental responsibility to repay the entry fee.
- Decisions re entry/non-entry will be made by the subject teacher in consultation with the student, Head of Department, KSL and SLT line manager of department.
- Students sign their exam entries in the Spring Term. A standard letter will be sent home in the event of withdrawal or level change following the signing
- All students and parents are informed of this policy in the KS4 curriculum booklet.
Details of how to appeal against moderation procedures for coursework/portfolios and final examination results are included in the school’s public examination appeals procedures policy.
